Australian artist Gai Saunders is a painter and sculptor whose art practice has been shaped by stories, poetry, music, philosophical ideas and current affairs. Her education included the study of teaching, visual art and theatre. Gai lives on a rural property in a beautiful setting where she works in her home studio.

Her paintings depict a merging of real and imagined scenes while her sculptural works blur the boundaries of these two and three dimensional worlds. Material and process driven, she combines a range of media to express her ideas.

There is usually a narrative behind each piece;

“My art practice has always circled back to the natural world, in particular how elements in nature can symbolically illuminate an emotion or present as metaphors for the human condition.”

Since her first solo exhibition in 1993, Gai has been involved in many group exhibitions and other collaborative projects.She has been a finalist in a variety of art awards and her work can be found in many private collections.
